Having grown up on a farm, a father of a young goalkeeper and a journalist by trade, Stephen has been trustee for 10 years of Lambeth Tigers FC, a powerhouse of football talent in London.
Concerned at the lack of safe facilities to play and train in the neighbourhood after a spate of knife crime, Stephen worked with other parents and coaches from the Tigers and other clubs to create LYST as a multi-sport alliance which took over the dilapidated Griffin Sports Ground in Dulwich, which was water-logged for much of the winter and losing a fortune each year.
They raised and spent over £1million to renovate the facility and put it on a sustainable path. LYST won the GMA’s 2025 Environmental and Sustainability Impact Award
